Carrion s Disease
Carrion's Disease, also known as Oroya Fever, is a potentially fatal infection caused by Bartonella bacilliformis, a parasite found in the Andes region of South America. It is transmitted through sandflies carrying the infection. Common symptoms include fever, anemia, an enlarged spleen and liver, low blood pressure, and bleeding in the skin. Treatment typically involves a combination of antibiotics and supportive care. Without proper treatment, Carrion's Disease can cause severe anemia and organ damage, even death. Early diagnosis and treatment is essential to prevent serious illness and death. Improved sanitation, insect control, and prompt treatment are essential for controlling Carrion's Disease.
