Babesia Caballi

Babesia caballi is a protozoan parasite of horses that is spread by ticks. It causes the disease babesiosis, which is characterized by anemia, weight loss, and fever. The infection can be fatal in some instances. Treatment is available but prevention through tick control is the most effective way of protecting horses from infection. Knowing the epidemiology of this parasite is critical for horse owners to protect their animals and help the veterinary community to manage and control the disease.
