Anisakis
Anisakis is a genus of parasitic nematode worms that can cause a food-borne illness known as anisakiasis. Humans can become infected by consuming raw or undercooked seafood that contains Anisakis larvae. Symptoms of anisakiasis include abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Left untreated, the larvae can migrate to other parts of the body and cause a range of complications, including intestinal blockage and allergic reactions. In order to reduce the risk of infection, consumers should ensure that all seafood is properly cooked and inspected before eating. Anisakis infection can be treated with medication and, in some cases, surgery.
