Cholesterol

Cholesterol is an important fat-like substance found in the body's cells and in some foods that we eat. It plays a role in cell structure and functioning, as well as aiding in the production of hormones and Vitamin D. Cholesterol is necessary for good health, but when levels are too high it can be dangerous, leading to an increased risk of stroke and heart disease. Medical experts recommend a healthy diet and lifestyle, including regular exercise, to keep cholesterol levels within a normal range. If these measures do not work, cholesterol-lowering medicines may be prescribed. Monitoring cholesterol levels is an important part of maintaining good health.
