Stress
hormone Stress hormone is a chemical released by the body in response to physical or mental distress and danger. It triggers the body’s “fight-or-flight” reaction in times of danger and prepares the body to respond to a challenge. Stress hormones, such as epinephrine and cortisol, allow the body to rapidly release energy and resources to respond to a stressful or threatening situation. While these hormones can help individuals cope with perceived threats, when experienced chronically and in large amounts, they can be detrimental to an individual’s physical and mental health. As such, many individuals seek various methods, such as exercise, meditation, and cognitive-behavioral therapy, to reduce and manage stress and its associated hormones.
