Palliative Medicine
Palliative Medicine is the medical specialty that focuses on relieving suffering and improving quality of life for individuals facing life-threatening illness or injury. It is an interdisciplinary approach that involves the patient's family, caregivers and other medical professionals. Through palliative care, individuals can experience an improved sense of well-being, remain independent, achieve dignity and gain a sense of control over their lives while living with a life-threatening illness. Palliative care seeks to improve the quality of life of individuals through symptom relief, support services, psychosocial and spiritual care, and the healing power of compassionate presence and relationship.
