Geriatric Nursing

Geriatric nursing is a specialty area of nursing that focuses on the care of elderly patients. It requires specialized knowledge and training to provide personalized and compassionate care to older, often frail individuals. Geriatric nurses strive to optimize the quality of life and health of seniors, while promoting independence and dignity. Their scope of practice includes comprehensive assessment and management of health conditions, medication management, and communication with doctors and other health care providers. Geriatric nurses also have an important role in educating families on topics such as caregiver stress, fall prevention and health promotion. Geriatric nursing is essential to providing high quality healthcare to seniors, as this population is at risk for multiple chronic diseases, disabilities, and polypharmacy.
