Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment
Comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA) is a multidisciplinary approach to evaluating elderly patients that combines physical, mental, and functional assessments to identify risks and burdens associated with aging. It is used to assess the overall health and functional status of elderly individuals in order to determine their care needs and to formulate an individualized treatment plan in order to optimize their health outcomes, quality of life, and independence. CGA is also used to find undiagnosed illnesses or conditions, assess social needs and support, and develop interventions that can improve function and overall wellbeing. CGA is a critical tool in helping healthcare professionals to identify, plan, and provide appropriate care and support for elderly individuals.
