Oxygen

Oxygen is an essential component of life on Earth. It is an element in the form of a gas with the chemical symbol O2. Oxygen acts as a powerful oxidant, which is important for numerous biochemical reactions, such as respiration, fermentation, and photosynthesis. Oxygen is also vital for combustion, enabling the production of energy from fossil fuels, and for the smelting of metals. At a cellular level, it is essential for aerobic organisms to survive, as it is consumed to produce energy from glucose through metabolism.
