Strep Throat

Strep throat is a type of bacterial infection caused by Streptococcus bacteria. Symptoms of strep throat include sore throat, fever, headaches, and swollen lymph nodes. Left untreated, strep throat can cause serious complications such as rheumatic fever and kidney inflammation. To diagnose it, a doctor will typically take a throat swab and test it for the bacteria. Treatment usually involves antibiotics such as penicillin or erythromycin and over-the-counter medications to manage the pain and discomfort. Prompt diagnosis and treatment are important to prevent serious complications and spread of the infection to others.
