Sinonasal Malignancies
Sinonasal malignancies are a form of cancer that originates in the sinonasal tract, which is the cavity connecting the nose and the nasal passages to the throat. These malignancies can be further classified into either sinonasal carcinomas, a type of cancer that begins in the tissue of the sinonasal tract, or sinonasal sarcomas, a type of cancer that begins in the bone or connective tissues of the sinonasal tract. Sinonasal malignancies have been associated with certain exposures, such as woodworking and certain types of infections, and are most common in patients with sinusitis. Early diagnosis and effective treatment are necessary to improve patient prognosis and quality of life, as the prognosis of sinonasal malignancies can be significantly worsened with delayed diagnosis and treatment.
