Rubella Virus
Rubella virus is a type of RNA virus that belongs to the family of Togaviridae. It is a common cause of infectious illness in children and adults, but can be dangerous to the unborn fetus if a pregnant woman is infected. Rubella is characterized by a fever, rash, and swollen lymph nodes. The virus can be spread through nose and throat secretions and close contact with an infected individual. Vaccination is the best way to prevent rubella and its severe consequences, such as deafness, congenital heart disease, and mental disabilities in the unborn baby.
