Rhinovirus
Rhinovirus is a small, single-stranded RNA virus that belongs to the family of Picornaviridae. It is the primary cause of the common cold, a highly contagious and potentially dangerous respiratory disease. It is also responsible for a range of other illnesses such as bronchitis, pneumonia, and sinusitis. Rhinovirus is easily spread through direct contact with an infected person or their secretions, as well as through contaminated surfaces, food, and water. Although symptoms can vary between individuals, the most common signs of a rhinovirus infection include congestion, runny nose, sneezing, coughing, sore throat, and a fever. Treatment of rhinovirus infections commonly involves rest, plenty of fluids, and over-the-counter medications to relieve symptoms. Vaccines are not currently available to protect against rhinovirus, although researchers are actively working to develop effective treatments.
