Parathyroid Tumors

Parathyroid tumors are abnormal growths of the parathyroid glands that are located in the neck near the thyroid. Parathyroid tumors can cause increased levels of parathyroid hormones which can lead to elevated levels of calcium in the blood, known as hypercalcemia, and other health problems. While parathyroid tumors are generally benign in nature, they can become malignant and potentially spread to other parts of the body. Treatment for parathyroid tumors depends on the size and type, and may range from surgical removal to radiation or chemotherapy. If detected early, the likelihood of successful treatment and outcomes is improved. For this reason, regular medical check-ups and careful monitoring of health are recommended for those at risk of developing parathyroid tumors.
