Olfactory System
The olfactory system is the part of the body responsible for the sense of smell. It is a multi-step process which begins with odor molecules entering the nose and binding to olfactory receptors in the nose. These receptors then send signals to the brain which are processed to form an odor perception. This is important for humans as it helps them distinguish between different scents, both familiar and unfamiliar. It also has a role in memory and emotions as certain smells can trigger memories or emotions. Additionally, it can be used to detect environmental hazards such as gas leaks and spoiled food.
