Neisseria Meningitidis

Neisseria meningitidis, also known as meningococcus, is a Gram-negative bacteria that can cause meningitis, sepsis, and other life-threatening illnesses. It is a highly contagious pathogen that is spread through direct contact with saliva, nose and throat secretions, or respiratory droplets. Vaccines are available and are recommended for individuals at risk of infection, such as those living in crowded living conditions or those who are travelling to areas where the bacteria is more prevalent. Vaccines, along with effective sanitation and hygiene, are key to controlling and preventing the spread of Neisseria meningitidis.
