Inner Ear
The inner ear is an important part of the auditory system and is responsible for hearing, balance and posture. It is a complex structure, encased within the temporal bone of the skull and encompasses the vestibular and cochlear structures. The structure is filled with fluid and contains delicate receptors involved in sensing movement and sound. The inner ear is involved in facilitating the reception of sound waves via the cochlear resulting in hearing, and is similarly involved the maintenance of balance, posture and the sense of head and body orientation. Without the inner ear normal hearing and balance would not be possible.
