Deformities

Deformities (or malformations) refer to abnormal structural developments of a body part or organ. These structural abnormalities are usually present from birth, or develop in childhood due to genetic mutations or developmental issues. Treatment for deformities typically requires reconstructive or corrective surgery, and in some cases, physical therapy or the use of prostheses and orthoses. Deformities often have lifelong implications for physical and psychological health, and can be emotionally, physically and financially disruptive for patients and their families. However, modern medical advances, such as corrective surgery, can be successful in some cases in restoring optimal functioning of the affected body part or organ.
