Osteoarthritis Initiative
Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative joint condition that affects millions of individuals worldwide. It is characterized by pain, stiffness, and decreased range of motion in the affected joint. OA primarily occurs in older individuals but can also be seen in younger individuals. The Osteoarthritis Initiative (OAI) is a long-term research program that seeks to improve the diagnosis and management of OA by studying its underlying mechanisms, risk factors, and treatments. OAI is funded by the National Institutes of Health and involves a collaborative effort from multiple disciplines, including bioinformatics, epidemiology, radiography, imaging, clinical trials, and genetics. The data generated from the OAI is made publicly available to researchers, allowing for better understanding of OA and development of new treatments. The OAI has helped to generate numerous advances in our understanding of OA, improved diagnosis and treatment, and has the potential to revolutionize how OA is managed in the future.
