Metabolic Syndrome
Metabolic Syndrome is a set of conditions (including but not limited to high blood pressure, high blood sugar, and abnormal cholesterol levels) that increase the risk of developing serious health problems such as heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes. It is more common in individuals who are overweight or obese, have an inactive lifestyle, or have certain genetic factors. Lifestyle changes such as healthy eating, regular exercise, and maintaining a healthy weight are the most important steps for managing and/or preventing Metabolic Syndrome. Treatment may also involve taking prescribed medications to control blood pressure and blood sugar levels. Early detection and management of Metabolic Syndrome can help reduce the risk for serious health conditions.
