Oocyte Retrieval

Oocyte retrieval is a medical procedure used in assisted reproductive technology (ART) to collect eggs from a woman's ovaries. It is most commonly used as part of in vitro fertilization (IVF) procedure, allowing the eggs to be fertilized outside the body. The oocyte retrieval procedure involves the removal of eggs from the woman's ovaries through a small incision in the abdomen with either transvaginal or transabdominal ultrasound guided needle. The oocytes are then fertilized in a laboratory setting and the resulting embryo or embryos are then transferred to the woman's uterus. Oocyte retrieval is an important part of the IVF process as it allows fertility specialists to collect the highest number of healthy eggs for fertilization, increasing the chances of success.
