Fetal Tissue Transplantation
Fetal tissue transplantation is a medical procedure which involves transferring tissue from a fetus to a person, for health-related purposes. This type of transplant holds much significance because the fetal tissue can be used to repair or replace damaged or malfunctioning tissue or organs, restore lost functions, and even treat certain diseases. Fetal tissue transplantation may be used to treat a wide range of conditions, such as Parkinson’s disease, diabetes, spinal cord injuries, and certain types of cancer. This procedure is also being studied as a possible solution for some cases of Alzheimer’s and Huntington’s diseases. As research into fetal tissue transplantation continues, the potential for its use may continue to expand.
