Corneal Transplantation

Corneal transplantation (also called keratoplasty) is a surgically-based treatment used to restore the vision of patients suffering from conditions such as corneal opacity and corneal scarring. In corneal transplantation, a healthy cornea is surgically removed from a donor and replaced with the patient's affected cornea. This procedure is used to restore vision, reduce corneal pain and light sensitivity, and help to prevent further vision deterioration. The success, risk, and recovery time for corneal transplantation vary, but it is a very effective treatment for corneal diseases and is currently the most commonly performed eye operation. Corneal transplantation offers patients a chance to restore their vision and drastically improve their quality of life.
