Metabolism

Metabolism is the sum of all biochemical processes that occur in living cells to maintain life. It includes energy generation from the breakdown of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats and synthesizing new molecules such as proteins and DNA. Metabolism is an essential process for life and vital for maintaining homeostasis in the body. Metabolism also plays a key role in regulating the body’s response to external stresses such as disease, exercise, and diet. By understanding the molecular and physiological mechanisms of metabolism, we can gain insights into how disruptions in metabolic pathways lead to disease and develop therapeutics to treat them.
