Cortisol

Cortisol is a hormone produced by the body, released by the adrenal glands. It plays an important role in the body's response to stress, energy balance and controlling inflammation. It also affects metabolism, immune function and blood pressure. Cortisol helps with memory formation and concentration, helps regulate blood sugar levels and can help protect the body from infection or illness. It also affects mood, sleep and other important body functions. The effect of cortisol on the body can be beneficial when used in the right context, but too much cortisol can be very harmful. Elevated cortisol levels can cause increased risk for some types of disease, or contribute to mental health issues like depression or anxiety. It is important to maintain a healthy balance of cortisol for overall health and wellbeing.
