Transcription
factors Transcription factors are proteins that regulate gene expression in a cell by controlling the synthesis of RNA from DNA. They interact with specific DNA sequences to activate or repress transcription. As such, transcription factors are essential components of the biochemical network that facilitates the expression of genetic information into the production of proteins, which in turn perform the functions that are characteristic to each cell type. Transcription factors are involved in a variety of cellular processes, including cell differentiation, development, growth, and homeostasis, making them critical components of the regulatory mechanisms of living organisms.
