Stereoisomers

Stereoisomers are molecules which have the same chemical composition yet three-dimensional arrangement of the atoms which gives them distinct physical and chemical properties. Stereoisomers are important in understanding the effects of drugs because their interactions with the body may vary depending on their arrangement. They are also essential in the production of food, cosmetics and polymers as they provide control over the properties and behavior of the finished product.
