Species Colonization

Species colonization is the process by which a species spreads, disperses, and establishes itself in a new area. It is a key concept in the understanding of global biogeography and ecology, and has wide-ranging impacts on the environment and ecosystems. Human activities are increasingly impacting species colonization patterns, with changes in land use and the introduction of species into new areas for purposes such as production, recreation, or conservation. As a result, understanding how species colonize can help design appropriate strategies for conservation and management of biodiversity.
