Mediterranean Spotted Fever
Mediterranean Spotted Fever (MSF) is an infectious disease caused by the bacteria Rickettsia conorii, which is transmitted to humans through a tick bite. Symptoms of MSF may include fever, headache, rash and abdominal pain, and it can lead to more severe complications such as meningitis, encephalitis, organ failure and even death. Early diagnosis and prompt treatment with antibiotics are essential to reduce the risk of severe disease or death. Because MSF is common in some parts of the world, such as the Mediterranean basin, understanding the risk factors, prevention and treatment options is important to control the spread of this disease.
