Marine Molecular Biology
Marine molecular biology is the study of marine organisms at the molecular level. This field of research has recently grown in importance due to the increased availability of genomic and transcriptomic data of a broad range of marine species. It uses DNA sequencing, gene expression analysis and other approaches to examine how the genetic makeup of marine organisms affects their survival in different aquatic ecosystems. It can also be used to identify the cause of diseases and other issues in marine water systems. Marine molecular biology has the potential to improve our understanding of the effects of environmental changes on marine life, and to aid conservation efforts. This knowledge can be used to develop new strategies for improving the health of our oceans and marine ecosystems.
