Heme

Oxygenase Heme oxygenase (HO) is an enzyme that is involved in the metabolism of heme to biliverdin, carbon monoxide, and ferrous iron. HO performs the important function of facilitating the removal of toxic heme metabolites from cells and helps to maintain homeostasis in the body. HO is also involved in the regulation of inflammation and the immune system, as well as other physiological processes. Additionally, HO plays a role in the protection from oxidative stress, making it a key factor in the protection of health. The upregulation of HO has been associated with a variety of therapeutic benefits ranging from cardiovascular health to anti-cancer effects.
