Glucose Tolerance Tests
A Glucose Tolerance Test (GTT) is a diagnostic test used to measure how the body responds to ingesting a specific amount of glucose. It is used to diagnose diabetes and other medical conditions. During the test, a patient drinks a sugary liquid or receives an injection of glucose. Blood glucose levels are then monitored over a 2-4 hour period to assess how quickly the body metabolizes the glucose. High or low levels may indicate problems with the body's ability to use insulin or produce enough insulin. GTTs are essential for diagnosing and managing diabetes, as well as for determining the risk of developing type 2 diabetes in those at risk.
