Evolutionary Biology Developmental Molecular Mechanisms
Evolutionary developmental biology (evo-devo) is a field of scientific research that investigates the molecular mechanisms underpinning the evolution of development, the process by which organisms changes as they develop from cells to complex organisms. Evo-devo seeks to explain how various species have evolved different body plans, organs, and features over time, through the study of the genetic and epigenetic processes that regulate gene expression and control the development of living organisms. This research has significant implications for medicine, biotechnology, and the understanding of the natural history of living organisms. Evo-devo has been instrumental in helping to build the foundation for a modern understanding of evolutionary biology and has opened many new avenues of research into the development of human diseases, gene therapies, and new treatments.
