Enzyme Regulation

Enzyme regulation is a complex process by which enzymes are controlled in a living organism. Enzymes are proteins that catalyze or speed up biochemical reactions within cells. The regulation of enzyme activity is important for a variety of processes, including metabolic homeostasis, stress responses, and cell signalling. Enzyme regulation can occur at the level of substrate binding, enzyme activity, gene expression, or post-translational modification. Through these mechanisms, the cell can regulate the rate of the enzyme reaction to optimize the rate of essential metabolic pathways and respond to changing environmental conditions. Understanding enzyme regulation is essential for many fields of biomedical research, including understanding human diseases and developing new treatments.
