Nerve Conduction Study
A nerve conduction study (NCS) is a test used to assess the function of a person's nerves and muscles. The test measures the speed and strength of signals traveling along nerve pathways. NCS is most often used to diagnose nerve compression (e.g. carpal tunnel syndrome) and peripheral neuropathy. It can also be used to evaluate the effects of certain medications on nerve and muscle function. NCS is a relatively safe and painless procedure, making it a useful tool for providing quick and accurate diagnoses.
