Amyloid Proteins

Amyloid proteins are a group of structurally-related proteins that form fibrillar aggregates. These aggregates have been associated with several diseases, including Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease. Amyloid proteins play a key role in forming connections between the cells of the body, aiding in the functioning of the immune system, tissue growth and repair, and in maintaining the stability of vital organs. In addition, they regulate the body’s stress response and can help protect against radiation damage. Amyloid proteins are being studied as potential therapeutic agents for treating a wide range of diseases, including neurological disorders and some forms of cancer.
