Pyelonephritis
Pyelonephritis is an infection of the kidneys and upper urinary tract, usually caused by bacteria. It can cause pain, fever and confusion in addition to affecting kidney function. Treatment typically involves antibiotics and a hospital stay for close observation and management of symptoms. Prompt diagnosis and early treatment are essential to reduce potential long-term complications, such as permanent kidney damage or scarring. Pyelonephritis can be life-threatening in people with weakened immune systems, such as the elderly and those with pre-existing conditions. It is important to be aware of the risks and practice preventive measures, such as drinking plenty of fluids, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and promptly seeking medical advice if symptoms are present.
