Pessary
A pessary is a medical device used to provide support to the pelvic organs, to treat and prevent issues such as prolapse, incontinence, and pelvic pain. It is a small device, generally made of plastic, which is inserted into the vagina and held in place by the surrounding muscles. The device can be used as an alternative to invasive surgery, and is recommended before more aggressive treatments. Additionally, pessaries can also be used as contraceptives, as they act to physically block the cervix and prevent sperm from entering the uterus. Pessaries are a safe and reliable treatment option for many pelvic floor dysfunctions and can be used on a short or long-term basis to improve a person's quality of life.
