Nephrectomy

Nephrectomy is a surgical procedure to remove the entire kidney. It is used to treat a number of conditions such as kidney cancer, cysts, kidney stones, and abscesses. The procedure can be done as open, laparoscopic, or robotic surgery. Open nephrectomy involves making an incision in the abdomen, while laparoscopic and robotic nephrectomy involve inserting thin tools, guided by a camera, through several small cuts in the skin. Nephrectomy is a major surgery, but it can be an effective way to treat many kidney-related conditions and can improve quality of life.
