Lupus Nephritis

Lupus Nephritis is a kidney disorder caused by systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), an autoimmune disorder that occurs when the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks healthy tissue. Lupus Nephritis causes inflammation and damage to the kidneys, resulting in a decreased ability to filter wastes and toxins from the body. This can lead to high blood pressure, anemia, weakened bones, swelling in the extremities, and proteinuria (excessive loss of proteins in the urine). Treatment may include medications, lifestyle changes and dialysis. Early diagnosis and treatment are important to prevent long-term complications, such as end-stage kidney disease.
