Ascites
Ascites is the excessive accumulation of fluid inside the abdomen. It is caused by a variety of underlying medical conditions, including liver disease, heart failure and cancer. The symptoms may include abdominal pain and discomfort, loss of appetite, nausea and difficulty breathing. Ascites can be treated with medications such as diuretics, which help to reduce the amount of fluid in the body, and surgery to remove the fluid from the abdomen. The importance of ascites is that it can be a warning sign of more serious medical conditions, which if left untreated can have serious consequences. Treatment is essential to prevent further complications.
