Stomach Cancer
Stomach cancer, also referred to as gastric cancer, is a type of cancer that forms in the lining of the stomach. Unfortunately, this type of cancer is second only to lung cancer in terms of prevalence and mortality. It is estimated that more than 1 million people around the world are diagnosed with stomach cancer each year, and it is responsible for more than 700,000 deaths every year. Symptoms of stomach cancer include stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and weight loss. Other possible symptoms include blood in vomit, indigestion, and changes in stool or appetite. The most common treatments for stomach cancer are surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. Early diagnosis is key to the successful treatment of stomach cancer, and so regular checkups with a primary care doctor are important.
