Gastrointestinal Cancer
Gastrointestinal (GI) cancer is a type of cancer that affects the digestive system, including the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine (colon and rectum), pancreas, gallbladder, bile ducts and liver. GI cancer can be especially challenging due to its complexity, location of the cancer, and the potential for early spread to other organs and systems. Early detection is critical to improving outcomes, as well as using a multidisciplinary approach that is tailored to an individual’s specific needs. Treatment options have evolved significantly over the past several years and may include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy, to name a few. With increased knowledge regarding the complexity of the disease and access to new treatments, survival rates are slowly improving.
