Cancer Immunotherapy
Cancer immunotherapy is a type of medical treatment that stimulates the body’s immune system to recognize and destroy cancer cells. It is a rapidly developing field of cancer treatment with great potential to improve outcomes in people with cancer. Immunotherapy works by helping the body recognize cancer cells as foreign and activating an immune response to fight them. Immunotherapy has been used to treat many types of cancer, including melanoma, lymphoma, and some types of breast cancer, brain tumors, and blood cancers. It is especially promising for lung, prostate, and ovarian cancers. Immunotherapy has the potential to reduce side effects associated with traditional cancer treatments, such as chemotherapy and radiation therapy, and may even make these treatments more effective.
