Prospective Studies
Prospective studies are research designs used in medical and social sciences to examine associations between exposures and outcomes that may occur over a long period of time in the same group of people. They involve the collection of data on a population at one point in time and then following up with that same population to see how their exposures may affect their health or other outcomes over the course of many years. The benefit of conducting a prospective study is that it can help identify potential risk factors associated with a disease or health outcome before it occurs. This allows for proactive interventions to be put in place and can ultimately help to reduce the burden of disease in a population. Prospective studies also allow researchers to control for unknown confounders, as they are collected before any disease or outcome has occurred. This makes them a powerful tool for identifying causal relationships.
