Serotonin Syndrome
Serotonin Syndrome is a potentially life-threatening condition caused by abnormally high levels of serotonin in the body. This can be caused by an overdose of certain medicines, such as antidepressants, or interactions between multiple medications. Symptoms of Serotonin Syndrome include rapid heart rate, sweating, twitching, confusion, and muscle spasms. If left untreated, it can lead to seizures or even death. Treatment usually involves stopping or changing medications and other supportive care. Recognizing this condition is important for people taking multiple medications, so it is essential to be aware of its signs and symptoms.
