Rebound Headache
Rebound headaches are a type of primary headache disorder related to medication overuse. These headaches can occur when people take headache medications too often. The frequent use of medications changes the normal processes of the brain and leads to the brain ‘rebounding’ and causing more headaches. Rebound headaches can be disabling, causing a person to miss out on activities they enjoy. They can be treated by discontinuing the medications that are causing the rebound headaches, and using non-drug treatments such as relaxation techniques and cognitive behavioural therapy. Rebound headaches can have a significant impact on the quality of life of those suffering with them, so it is important to recognize the signs and seek medical advice for treatment.
