Medication Overuse Headache

Medication Overuse Headache (MOH) is a type of chronic headache disorder which is caused by taking headache medications, triptans, and/or opioids for at least three months for more than 10 days per month. It is a disabling disorder leading to long term episodes of headache, often with associated nausea, fatigue and cognitive impairment. MOH is highly prevalent and is a major contributor to health care costs, lost productivity and disability. Early detection and appropriate management is essential for successful treatment. Treatment typically involves the use of medications as well as lifestyle modifications, such as reducing medication intake, increasing physical activity, and improving sleep hygiene. Regular evaluation by a physician and collaboration with other healthcare professionals is recommended to ensure the best outcomes.
