Urogenital Schistosomiasis
Urogenital schistosomiasis, also known as bilharzia, is a serious parasitic infection caused by a type of worm. It is most commonly found in tropical and subtropical regions of the world, particularly Africa and the Middle East, but can also be found in other countries. The infection is spread through contact with contaminated water, and can lead to a range of health problems such as bladder cancer, infertility, and kidney damage. Diagnosis is made through the detection of eggs in the urine, but treatment is available in the form of antiparasitic medications. Urogenital schistosomiasis is a major global health concern, and prevention through improved access to clean drinking water and sanitation is essential in order to reduce the spread of this disease.
