Ulcerative Colitis

Ulcerative Colitis (UC) is an inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that affects the colon, also known as the large intestine. UC causes swelling, ulcers, and bleeding in the colon, leading to frequent and often painful bowel movements. UC can lead to long-term and sometimes serious complications, such as malnutrition, dehydration, and an increased risk of colon cancer. Treatment for UC typically involves changes in diet and lifestyle, medications, and sometimes surgery. Early diagnosis is important to reduce the risk of these long-term complications. With proper management, people with UC can lead normal, active lives.
